Iceday and Thundersday and two of my favorite ingame days. It's nice receiving the day bonus on two of the most important elements black mage has access to. The elemental obis especially help with this. The sorcerer's tonban also add a day bonus. I strongly urge anyone who has access to sea to at least pick up the ice and thunder obis. You can easily obtain these from farming. The pants are nice to have, but not necessary, as they come from dynamis. T.T

For bigger, badder mobs, I stack on my elemental gear. This is not to say that you want to use full out elemental gear for all higher level mobs! Some mobs you can get by with more MaB and intelligence. Others, it's almost required that you stack all of the elemental magic gear that you can.

I remember fighting Kirin for the first time, back when I had very little in the way of Elemental Magic Skill gear. I noticed that my nukes were almost always getting full out resisted. However, when I started adding more to my elemental gear arsenal, I notice that I'm getting less and less resisted on him.

So it pays to have a decent elemental gear setup! Especially if you're a part of an HNM ls. Less resists = Less wasted nukes = More MP = Happy Black Mage.

For some higher level mobs, but not quite HNM's, weigh your options accordingly. I usually just toss on the Sorcerer's Petasos and leave the rest of the gear alone, but it's different for each person. If you get resisted a lot, stack on more elemental magic skill. If you don't get resisted, try your luck with more MaB and intelligence.

Okkkkk. The meat and bones of Black mage. Simply put, it's always good to have a standard nuking set and an elemental set for higher level mobs. As you can see, there's not much to the standard set. All I really do is stack intelligence and MaB. Intelligence ensures that you have a higher base damage per nuke. MaB add's a percentage to that base damage. So like everything else, it's good to have a balance. Too much int and no MaB will mean your nukes deal generally more, but don't have the extra potential due to little to no MaB. Stacking MaB without intelligence means you're adding a percentage to very little base damage nukes. So it is imperative that you find a good balance between the two.

I do admit, I'm missing a few pieces of gear that could increase my MaB. I'm working on my Novio earring, but the sorcerer's ring, I wouldn't think of buying right now. Just as with everything else, gear is very situational. I'm usually the one to take hate with my current setup, and forcing myself to be under 75% just wouldn't be to my advantage. However, for manaburn situations, it can be very fun to see how much you can push the limit to, so maaaaaybe I'll get one when I get more black mage gear.

Also, the tamas ring I used to have, but I'm currently playing with a rajas ring. So stay tuned!

Dark Set

The dark setup is mainly for Drain, aspir, bio, and stun(just macro in thunder staff for stun). The two most important stats are dark magic skill, and haste. Dark magic skill ensures that you get a higher return on Drain and Aspir, as well as a higher damage per tick for bio II. Haste is very useful for moments where you need to cast a lot. Lowered recast time = more stuns, drains, aspirs. HNM's are a perfect example of when it's beneficial to have stun ready at almost all times. Haste can be useful for anything ranging from HNM's to aspir'ing crabs for MP.

Mind Set

This set is mainly for stoneskin. Simply put, the more mind you stack on, the more it adds to your stoneskin. Macroing in fast cast also helps to reduce the downtime between nukes. I would macro in mind rings as well, but inventory space limitations prevents me from doing so. Damn you SE...

Resting Set

Pretty self-explanatory. I just find whatever +HmP gear I can and use it. Genie gages also help, but the price isn't worth it for me, IMO.

Hands: Master Caster's Bracelets ( +7 enfeebling skill when outside nation control )

Ear1: Locquacious Earring ( Fast Cast effect )

Ear2: Magnetic Earring ( Spell interruption rate down 8% )

Ring1: Snow Ring ( +5 int )

Ring2: Snow Ring ( +5 int )

Legs: Igqira lappas ( enfeebling magic skill +10 )

Feet: Rostrum Pumps ( fast cast effect , +3 int )

It's always good to have a decent enfeebling set, especially if you participate in dynamis or do a lot of soloing. Nothing pisses me off more than resisted sleeps or gravity. >.< HQ staves definitely help, if you can afford them. Also, make sure to stack enfeebling skill, as well as intelligence for black mage - related enfeebles (blind , bind , etc).

Also, it's nice to stack fast cast effect, because you'll want to be able to sleep mobs as soon as you can. Also, spell interruption rate particularly helps if you are getting smacked while attempting to get an enfeeble off on the mob. Can't tell you how many time's this has saved my hide. T.T

Probably the most important things to have while running around are defense, refresh andmovement speed, as Kanican's mentioned in his earlier posts. Other important things to have are a decent supply of MP and evasion. While I know Evasion of a black mage is already bad enough as it is, having that extra bit of evasion from the Yigit Seraweels might mean the difference between life or death.

Gear and macros

As per request, I'm posting my gear and macros for anyone that's interested.

An early B-day present...

Well, my birthday's coming up and I really didn't at all expect to receive what I got last Sunday. Here's the story: My dynamis linkshell Fullwipe was scheduled to do Dynamis-Bastok last Sunday. I really didn't need much from bastok, seeing as how I already received my Sorcerer's Tonban. So I put Samura in my comment and sat myself in Bastok. Before you know it, I see people talking in the linkshell that another linkshell already went in.... So somebody suggested that we do Dynamis Xarcabard. I checked the zone and it was clear. (woo!) So I gear up my samurai and head out to Xarcabard. Once I get there, I AFK myself and go eat dinner. I come back around gather time and there's literally nobody at the zone. Funny how the words "Dynamis - Bastok" makes nobody want to go. I check people's comments and see that there are 5 other people lotting the black mage hat, so basically, it's a dice roll. It approaches enter-time and we only have a measly 27 people in the linkshell. Hell, the leader wasn't even on. ;; When it was all said and done, we enter an hour late into Dynamis Xarcabard with not even enough people to do a city run. We go in and amazingly do pretty well for only having 1 whitemage. We kill a few mobs and get a Dragoon-head drop. We didn't even have TH4, so I was pretty surprised. We then move onto the powerful demons needed to spawn Dynamis Lord. Out of those demons, we got a Paladin and whitemage drop. It's kinda funny though, I always see dragoon or paladin drop in dynamis xarcabard. x.x After we killed the demons, we went farming for AF. We spent a good 1 hour of farming until someone messed up a pull and wiped the zone. ;;

So at this point, I thought we were done with the run and I was about to leave to help peeps out with Chains of Promathia Missions. But there was that small chance that my hat might finally drop, so I stay. So we slowly get back up and get rebuffed before fighting somemore. There's maybe 30 minutes left in Dynamis and all we do is kill hordes of demons. I was half-dozing off and randomly, out of nowhere, the Sorcerer's Petasos drops! The instant it dropped, I woke up. I've seen the hat drop many times, but I'm always unlucky when it comes to lotting. The last time, I lotted the lowest on it and didn't get it. So, I'm not really getting my hopes up, but I wait for other people to lot. The following lots are 251, 141, 435, 543, and 648. I keep waiting, seeing if anyone else is going to lot. Then I just stare at the treasure pool for a second. I needed to beat a 648 lot to get the hat. I push the Cast lots button and pray for the best. Before you know it, I see the message:

I had won the hat. I was telling people on vent about it and I was so ecstatic with joy!!! Before you know it, I get so many congratulations /tells left and right. I was praying to God that my internet wouldn't crap out or my computer die on me before it dropped (because it has been known to do that ;; ) At this point in the run, we were wiping and there was nobody left to fight. Before I know it, it finally drops.

By the time I got my hat, the alliance was practically all dead, so I had to wait to get d2'ed before I could equip it. I couldn't be a happier tarutaru right now.

Faffy!

This week was very interesting... The cons? On Wednesday, my dynamis linkshell did dynamis san'doria. Sounds like a cake-walk, right? Wrong-o. Practically nobody showed up and we kept getting crap drops, the most noticable one being whitemage. x.x

Not to mention that I was psyched up about doing Swift Belt runs, so when we finally get to my turn, we don't bother clearing out the room first. -.- This ends in death shortly afterwards. Annnnnd to top it all off, I was farming HQ aern organs for God knows how long. I think I managed to cap my exp buffer quite a few times... The pros? Managed to help my friend Folkwolf get his first "In the Name of Science" quest finished with. Took me a good hour or so of farming sea organs. x.x

Of course, the highlight of my week would be duoing ix'aern with Tetron and getting my Merciful Cape. (finally!) Also, me and Kiora-taru managed to take down faffy during limbus, something that is difficult for my former limbus linkshell. We duo King Behemoth pretty often and wondered if we could take the beast. This is what ensued:
